gemz Posted December 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Just returned from a Princess cruise and it was absolute heaven because all the bars and lounges are non-smoking. Since Oasis is geared to families, are the bars and lounges non-smoking as well? I remember even walking in the hallways near a bar/lounge on the RCCL ships were choking with smoke. Please let me know if all areas excluding the casino is non-smoking. Thank You!
Gonzo70 Posted December 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2010 No, it is far from a smoke free ship. Some bars and lounges are smoke free, some have a smoking section. The casino allows smoking, half the pool deck allows smoking, people can smoke on private balconies and there are some other outdoor smoking areas. Royal's sister line Celebrity has a more restrictive smoking policy. Only one indoor smoking area (small section of one lounge), casino 100% smoke free, no smoking in any stateroom or stateroom balcony, a few outdoor smoking areas exist in public areas. ottawapuppy Posted December 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Just returned from a Princess cruise and it was absolute heaven because all the bars and lounges are non-smoking. Since Oasis is geared to families, are the bars and lounges non-smoking as well? Not even close!! Most of the bars reeked of cigarette smoke, and heaven forbid you should have to walk through the casino (even it's supposed "non-smoking" side). If you want a non-smoking environment, you should consider the Solstice-class ships with Celebrity. Interior bars and casino are non-smoking. I loved Oasis, but man, it stank of stale smoke. pltag Posted December 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2010 I loved Oasis, but man, it stank of stale smoke. What about the pool bars?? One of my biggest dissapointments on Liberty last summer was that smokers had taken over the Pool Bar AND the Sky Bar!! :( :(
CVU Posted December 9, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 9, 2010 Don't know about the bars but half the casino was no smoking which was nice!:) We have had smoking on a lot of formal nights lately on other ships, that used to be a good time to avoid the smoke in the casino...............:(
klingoncruiser Posted December 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2010 Sorry, RCI is not there yet. It has gotten much better over the years, but still a ways to go.
kathyemma Posted December 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2010 The pool bar in between the main pool and the sports pool was in the smoking area. There were always smokers there. The pool bar on the other side - between the H2O and the beach pool was non smoking. The casino was pretty bad - even the non smoking side. Of course, keep in mind, I had just stopped smoking about 2 months before the cruise so my nose is VERY sensitive. OdessaChic Posted December 10, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2010 I just returned from Oasis of the Seas last Saturday. Smocking is permitted on one side of the casino but due to insufficient ventilation smog fills entire casino. In addition, there are some of the bars that allow smocking. The occupants of Crown Loft Suite next to mine smocked as well. It bothered me when my neighbors were enjoying their balcony and I could not enjoy mine. I have noticed covered ashtray on their balcony but I am not sure if ashtrays are provided for nonsuit balconies.

One of my favorite routines on sea days is after we've soaked up way too much sun, move to the bar and "make some friends". Unfortunately on Liberty it was way to 'thick' at BOTH pool bars. I think there was a bar by the Solarium ..... not sure if it was smoking or not.

jewopaho Posted December 10, 2010 #12 Share Posted December 10, 2010 There are no smoke-free ships. Carnival experimented with it several years ago when it launched the Paradise ... not even the crew members were permitted to smoke, and passengers had to sign paperwork allowing the cruise line to remove them if they were caught. The result was both a cleaner ship and a significant drop in revenue, especially in the casino, perhaps the industry's biggest cash cow. It was a valiant try, but an economic flop. Royal Caribbean's policy is more restrictive than the other major cruise lines, save for Celebrity's (ironically, they're both owned by the same company). The major difference is that RCI allows smoking on balconies, while Celebrity does not. Neither permits it in staterooms (there's a $250 cleaning fee if passengers violate this regulation). In addition, smoking is restricted in the casino, open bars (i.e. with direct walk-in access from the promenade) and other public venues. As with the other cruise lines, one side of the outdoor area is reserved for smokers. Then there's the matter of enforcement ... inconsistent at best. There have been dozens of threads begun about this issue, and I don't wish to turn this into another one. Simply put, be it the Oasis or any other ship, you're going to encounter smoke to some degree ... it is what it is. Al
