Lunch in Halifax on a Scooter

On our next cruise, one of the ports will be Halifax. This will be our third cruise visiting there. Since we've done the Peggy's Cove and Titanic-related tours, we're not planning any tour this time. What we do want is to have a lobster lunch ashore, as this is the only stop in North America before disembarking in New York.

 

DW is a scooter user. Our recollection is that in Halifax, getting on and off the ship is easy enough. We're looking to find out if there is (are) a good place(s) to have the lunch within walking (scooting) distance of where the ship docks. While she rides, I walk, so not interested in a mile-long journey! The restaurant itself does not need to be scooter-accessible, since she can walk a few yards without it. What would be ideal is a place hwere we can dine outdoors (NOT a "quiky joint" please) but that's a plus, not a requirement.

 

Any recommendations? We'll be docking on a weekday, so no issues with places closed on Sundays (if any exist). If not, we'll have to take a taxi, with DW in her manual chair. Rather not hassle that if possible.

 

PS: not positing this on the "Canada" ports board since in general, most posters really don't know about accessibility, and I'd rather not have a bunch of "guesses" from people with no real experience.

The best place to head to is Murphy's On The Water -- it is accessible both inside and out to a scooter. It is approx. one mile on The Harbor Walk -- you can't miss it. It is a major seafood restaurant. The Harbor Walk is flat and winds around a trail -- always flat for the scooter and a pleasant walk if the weather is nice, with lots of places to rest. Before reaching Murphy's, if you were to go off the trail to the left - approx. 1 block, you might find more restaurants suited to your taste.

 

If the weather is inclement -- don't forget the Pier 21 Immigration Museum -- right at the pier -- it's very interesting and informative - approx. $12 and well worth it and totally accessible. Vicki

Try McKelvies - accessible entrance is on the Hollis Street side. It's quite a nice restaurant, near but not on the water (one street above Water Street) and a nice walk/ride from the pier. Non-quirky in the extreme but not stuffy either.

Thanks Vicki and Campion61 - this is the kind of info I am looking for. We have no lobster here at any price (water far too warm) so we always plan a meal when visiting North America.
