Gugi Posted December 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2010 Has anyone travelled with QM2 to Fort Lauderdale? Is it possible to visit the town on one's own. Alternatively can we visit a shopping mall within walking distance?
Jim Avery Posted December 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2010 Has anyone travelled with QM2 to Fort Lauderdale? Is it possible to visit the town on one's own. Alternatively can we visit a shopping mall within walking distance? Yes you can. There is a shopping district just outside the port area to the North at 17th St Causeway. Just under the 17th st bridge, you can catch the water taxi service and get a good tour of all the famous persons estates on the way to Downtown Las Olas District or to the beaches. The water taxi also stops at numerous pubs and restaurants. Great way to see the area as well as hundreds of large yachts. J.
Boytjie Posted December 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2010 Port Everglades is a major port - there is nothing withing walking distance.
Runners Posted December 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2010 Has anyone travelled with QM2 to Fort Lauderdale? Is it possible to visit the town on one's own. Alternatively can we visit a shopping mall within walking distance? Last April when we made a stop in Ft Lauderdale on the QM2, Cunard provided a free shuttle bus to the Galleria Mall on E. Sunrise Blvd. It is about 4.5 miles from the port. We then walked back to the ship.
dancer11 Posted December 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2010 If shopping is not hugely important, but a few independently owned shops, a Chicos and Tommy Bahama shops plus nice restaurants with outdoor seating, take a cab to the Las Olas neighborhood. It's not too far and it's a nice walking area of 3-4 blocks. Have the taxi take you to the Tommmy Bahama store and wander around from there. The Galleria is a large mall, so if you are wanting to do major shopping, then head there. We are joining the QM2 there for the world cruise, rather than flying to cold, snowy New York. I believe that these shuttle buses in the various ports around the World are actually provided by the local Chamber of Commerce or Council to attract people to shop, dine and spend their hard earned. Cunard are not slow to take credit but in my experience the only free thing from Cunard is the drink that you get at the various cocktail parties. :)
