BeachBum1007 Posted January 1, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2011 Is there any kind of wildlife tour in Ketchikan or Skagway? We are already doing the whales in Juneau, however we would like a tour where we can see the eagles, otters, sea lions, bears, etc. We were hoping to do something like that in Sitka, but we changed our itinerary and we no longer have that option. Budget Queen Posted January 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2011 You are prime in Ketchikan for Anan bear tours, which is my ONLY recomendation. You need to NOW, look for availablity and book. You will see sea lions in Auke Bay. Eagles are everywhere in Alaska, make the effort to look. Sea otters are not likely, unless you are doing one way and taking a boat tour? bbwex Posted January 3, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2011 We did not see many eagles until we got to the coast, but we were never near fishing grounds until we got to the coast either. Once we got to the coast, and particularly on the whale watching trip out of Juneau, we saw tons of eagles. Start looking around at the marina before you get on the boat for the whale watch, and then you will see more as you go -- on the shore and on islands. Budget Queen is right, you will see so many, you will stop taking pictures! Sea otters are tough -- they are fast. We saw some in the harbor in Seward, and a couple while whale watching near an island. But they are pretty afraid of people, and will swim fast. You will likely see sea lions and seals on your whale watch as well. All wildlife takes a bit of luck on the right day.
