Islandbear Posted January 8, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2011 I am a snorkeler and I always start with "shore dive .com" . it has detailed info on hundreds of locations that you can then google the ones that look the best for you. It doesn't seem to be a chamber of commerce type site but one supported by real scuba & snorkelers.

Do you know any snorkel guides at any of these ports? tabyana in Roatan.. fantastic snorkeling from shore grand cayman... Eden rock, a short walk from the tender pier has decent snorkeling Cozumel, fabulous reefs but you need to take a boat.. you can do some shore snorkeling from Chankanaab park but the hurricanes hurt the reefs close to shore in Cozumel so the best snorkeling is offshore
Capt_BJ Posted January 11, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2011 tabyana in Roatan.. fantastic snorkeling from shoregrand cayman... eagle rock, a short walk from the tender pier has decent snorkeling mahogany Bay has no snorkeling but a gorgeous beach in St. Thomas Cozumel, fabulous reefs but you need to take a boat.. you can do some shore snorkeling from Chankanaab park but the hurricanes hurt the reefs close to shore in Cozumel so the best snorkeling is offshore Cayman I believe you mean Eden Rock not necessarily the best but certainly the closest to the tender landing. Not BAD ... but maybe not the best
CRUISERTN Posted January 11, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 11, 2011 The BEST is Tabyana in Roatan. Eden Rock in Grand Cayman is an easy walk from the tender pier. Just go to the right and walk about 1/3 to 1/2 mile and you will see it on your right. Have taken a taxi in Cozumel to Dzul-ha or Corona Beach and there is snorkeling from the shore...just a step or two into the water...may not be the best, but it is do-able from the shore and about a $10 taxi ride each way from the cruise docks. Hope this helps. Also, if you ever get to Dominica, you must go to Champagne Reef...there is not a beach, but lots of rocks...there is a walkway from the road and you put your things down on one side of the rocks, step over the rocks and great snorkeling from the shore....very unusual and fun experience! maydaybaby Posted January 16, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 16, 2011 Just returned from a cruise; we snorkeled off the beach at Tabayana beach & it was amazing! We booked thru Carnival & are glad we did, as the ride to the beach can take up to an hour with traffic. You can rent all your equipment right there, or, if you can rent "a la carte", which was perfect for us, as we had our own masks & snorkels -- just rented fins & vest. Facing the water at Tabayana, walk to your left toward the rocks; the reef is just offshore and offers a large variety of colorful fish and types of coral. Enjoy!
