Catalina Island - When to book it?

Does the excursion to Catalina Island need to be booked ahead of time or can we book it once we arrive on the ship? I imagine the boat will go back and forth ot pick up passengers at the ship all day?

It's a shore excursion with limited space. Book it in advance if it's important to you. No, the ferry makes one trip there and one trip back. It's not a tender.

On Costa they provide Tender to catalina island with a free lunch it's all Included is their private island.

Yes, I was on Celebrity. But I saw the Costa ferries there too. In both cases, the ferries/tenders/boats make one trip there and one trip back. They don't shuttle you back and forth all day.
