We like to stay at the 17th St. Embassy Suites. Close to the port, little farther from the beach, but great breakfast buffet & evening manager's reception (drinks & snacks). Grocery store walking distance behind the hotel. Nice outdoor pool.

We've had excellent luck using Priceline when looking for hotels in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Proximity to beaches has not been among the criteria we have used but closeness to the airport and/or the cruise pier have been and we have paid between $50 and $65 a night for 2 1/2 and 3 star properties.

Hello, I need your help. I am looking for a hotel. Post cruise in the Fort Lauderdale area. Woulk like to be near beach, but also near the port. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll find a lot of detailed info on the Florida board:

here's the web site for the cruise ship port. Click on "port map"; it includes much of the surrounding area.

Most of the "action" is centered on 17th Street, hwy A1A.
