Renting Car from Port Everglades to Miami Airport

Has anyone done this recently? I found some pretty decent rates. There are 3 of us departing the ship on a Saturday at Port Everglades - need to be at Miami Airport for a 3pm domestic flight. How much of a pain in the tail is renting a car? My husband thinks we should just pay the $ and cab it thinking it will be a pain getting to the car rental and paying for the gas... Not interested in a shuttle.

 

I would be interested to hear about others' experiences.
