50th Anniversary Posted February 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Sailing on The Magic March 19th and getting very excited. A couple of questions: What is the price range for on board alcoholic drinks? For example, a beer, a cocktail (rum and coke) or a fruity drink (pina coloda). Are there a lot of "local" vendors through which excrusions can be booked? For example, jet skiing, golfing, snorkeling, etc. Any specific recommendations? Any and all information is grealty appreciated!
TheWog Posted February 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Drinks can range from the drink of the day for $3.50 or $4.00 or so for a beer. Pina Colada type drinks range about $5.00 or so. Martinis and wine will be more. Excursion depends on where you are going. Are you going Eastern or Western. Most ports have taxis or guides trying to get customers right at the port. Jet skis are usually at a beach. St. Maarten will have them at Great Bay beach right where the ships dock and also Orient. Grand Cayman will have them on 7 mile beach. Provide a little more info and we can help you a little better.
50th Anniversary Posted February 28, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Yes, I guess that would help. We're doing the Eastern cruise. Thanks for the information on the drinks.
dawne577 Posted March 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2005 50th Anniversary, Almost all of the excursions that Disney offers can be booked locally. It's usually cheaper than booking the excursion through the line. The downside is that if you are late back to the ship they will not wait for you--whereas if it is a Disney promoted tour they will wait. We can recommend the PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line for finding out addresses of the local vendors. This book is in many bookstores as well as at http://www.passporter.com. This is an unbiased recommendation (we have no stock in the company, but wish we did).
TheWog Posted March 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2005 If you want a tour of the island, Godfrey apparently gives a great tour of St. Thomas. Go to the St. Thomas ports of call boards here on Cruise Critic and they will give you the contact information. We did the Atlantis submarine ride on St. Thomas and had a great time. There are snorkeling trips out to Buck Island and you could always go to St. John for some beautiful quiet beaches. St-thomas.com will also help you with info for the island. St. Maarten there is a beach right at Philipsburg that you can easily get to or you can get a taxi and go to Orient Beach. Supposed to be gorgeous. Maho beach is at the airport and has the planes literally landing over your head and real close. disboards has a link to video filmed of how close the planes come to you. It is pretty neat. Have a great time.
