CaribbeanSun53163 Posted January 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Hello Everyone, Does any of you know which side of Pier 88 the new Queen Elizabeth is going to dock? Accross from the interepid side or Pier side. I am hoping near the intrepid. That way I can take photos of the ships in NYC at Pier 88 and 90 without security saying something like I can't take photos of the queens. Please let me know. mheslop Posted January 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2011 We are embarking tomorrow and were told it was Pier
hwfiv Posted January 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Are the Queens here already? The Cunard website's bridge cam's show the GPS for the ships as being in Red Hook (Brooklyn). Are they in port already? Or perhaps just anchored outside of New York?
northernsailor Posted January 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2011 QV and QE are both heading towards NYC @ 19kts and have a fair way to go yet - I would estimate about 7hrs ish, can't see QM2 on the live tracking currently. hwfiv Posted January 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Oh cool... How are you able to see the tracking of the ships?

northernsailor Posted January 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I've an app on my iPad that shows me the live tracking of any ship around the world (as long as it's in range of a ground AIS receiver) :) Chris
hwfiv Posted January 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I need to get that App... are you allowed to say what app it is? I'm REALLY excited to use my iPad when I sail on the QM2 in July for the Astronomy programs. Will be very fun being able to identify exactly what stars we're seeing from the decks... MadameConcorde Posted January 13, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2011 AIS is very reliable. However if it breaks down you can use sailwx. http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml Some of the ships don't always report their GPS positions. The Cunard Queens are generally good reporting where they are. :)
MadameConcorde Posted January 13, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I saw QV and QE getting into port and to their piers just now via the Intrepid/Concorde live cam - Intrepid and Concorde are at Pier 86. Can still see them as I am posting. http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/Live-Webcams.aspx Vickie and New Liz will be at piers 88 and 90. They are now in! Welcome to NYC Harbour! :)

MadameConcorde Posted January 13, 2011 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2011 New Liz just came into the piers. I saw her on the Intrepid Museum/Concorde live cams. http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/Live-Webcams.aspx I did some screenshots. Beautiful close-up views. Intrepid is at Pier 86. The Queens will be at Piers 88 and 90. Concorde will have two friends to talk stories with today. I bet she will feel nostalgic! :)

MadameConcorde Posted January 13, 2011 #17 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Oops, now its coming daylight it appears QM2 has already docked!! Is there a not too far distant live cam where we can see Big Mary? Thinking of tonight when they will leave. The two other cams -Intrepid and Wired- are fantastic. From the Intrepid Museum/Concorde cam you can get close-ups of New Liz every few minutes. :)

capnpugwash Posted January 13, 2011 #21 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Big Mary New Liz You make them sound like hookers, personally I prefer QM2 or QE if you don't wish to use their given names.
MadameConcorde Posted January 13, 2011 #22 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Big Mary New Liz You make them sound like hookers No taking offense here. Just a different, less conservative and more hip way of naming them. Is it not allowed? Nothing to do with hookers. Would never even come to mind. :)
