antoniusp Posted January 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Hullo, Are HAL able to process on board credit cards which have additional pin code security. Just asking as some countries have yet to implement this additional security functionality. Many thanks
Rare kazu Posted January 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2011 As long as you do on line check in, there is no issue. We have one and had no problem on our last cruise. no worries. :D
sapper1 Posted January 13, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2011 I used a chip card onboard last April to buy a future cruise credit and had no problem.

Davidson Duo Posted January 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Any merchant that accepts credit cards can process a chip enabled card even if they don't have a chip reader machine. The card is made with both a chip and a swipe strip. If the terminal has a chip reader, they should not process your chip card without your PIN or using Pay Pass. If you forgot your PIN, they are supposed to refuse your use of the card (some places don't abide by this but their contract with the CC company states this is how it is supposed to be done). That is what the chip is for - to make it impossible to charge anything on the card unless you have the PIN. But if the merchant does not have a chip reader, they can process your card using the swipe. Don't worry, your card will work. HAL enters your CC into their system when you board, but does not charge to it every time you purchase something on board. You have a running bill with them, then the final day is when they make the charge to your CC. As you are not present when they do this but have given them your card info prior to boarding, their system is able to process it no problem. Once you are on board, HAL will not have terminals throughout the ship where you will need to use your card. I hope this info helps. Enjoy your cruise. :)
