quincytoo Posted January 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2011 We were there last week and the water was way too cold to swim in. This winter has been one of the coldest in history for the Mex Riv. Also snorkelling wouldn't be good from there
STARFISH*4 Posted January 20, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted January 20, 2011 thanks for the info taking an excursion to Stone Island and one of the activites to choose from is snorkling so wasnt sure if the temp would be warm enough this time of year to bring our own. it was a bit cool when we have been in December. ladyd11933 Posted January 22, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2011 Not sure about the water in February because we were there in July. I agree that I do not think it would be very good snorkeling in that area, water was not very clear. Stone Island was not my favorite place. r&rfraz Posted January 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2011 i agree with the opinion that stone island is not the place to snorkle. the beach and surrounding area is all sand, no rocks or other formations that would make snorkling worth while. it is a great beach for kids because of the nice sand bottom and gradual slope. our kids had a blast boogie boarding, horse back riding and ejoying the relaxing day at the beach. it is not a resort area. the restaurants are simple buildings right on the sand. we loved stone island, but it is not for snorkling. scuddles Posted January 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 28, 2011 We hit Stone Island last spring break. It is not for everyone. We had a great time horseback riding and having lunch on the beach. Just from what I remember and what others have said it really isn't a place to snorkel. To be honest I am not sure I would swim there either the water looks ok but the there was a lot of debris. Hope this helps.
swedish weave Posted January 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2011 I have been to Stone Island when the water was very clear, and other times the water was murky. I think it depends on the weather and storms. I have seen PV in the same conditions.
