Seattle, Wash., Jan. 19, 2011 — As part of its corporate reorganization following the relocation of Seabourn to Seattle, Holland America Line has promoted Capt. Cees Deelstra to vice president, nautical operations. He also will assume responsibility for fleet security and will report to Dan Grausz, executive vice president, fleet operations.

“Captain Deelstra is a key member of the senior management team and is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of our fleet,” said Grausz. “He is recognized throughout the entire cruise industry for his knowledge and professionalism as well as his dedication to our staff and crew. We are confident his vast experience will ensure his success in this new role.”

Deelstra joined Holland America Line more than 38 years ago as a cadet officer and worked his way up to captain. After sailing worldwide for 18 years, in 1990 he accepted a permanent position ashore at Holland America Line headquarters in Seattle.

Deelstra serves as chairman of the Technical and Operational Committee of the Northwest and Canada Cruise Ship Association. He is a founding member and first co-chairman of the Marine Safety Task Force in Alaska and a member and past chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators.

He represents Holland America Line at the Alaska Steamship Association, the B.C. Chamber of Shipping and is an officer of the Alaska Steamship Response organization. Deelstra also is a member of several committees of Cruise Lines International Association.

He is a graduate of Rotterdam Nautical College.
