Nawlins Restaurant Suggestions

We'll be staying in the French Quarter. Looking for a place to fit our small groups varied food likes/dislikes. Looking for very casual and not too expensive, but still yummy with a decent variety. We will not have a car, so something in the FQ. And a couple of us do not eat seafood (can you believe it?), and no oysters please...LOL.

Also, we went to Pat O'Briens long ago for cocktails, and it now looks like they have other locations, and one with a decent menu perhaps? Can someone give me the scoop on PO's?

Thanks!!

There are so many restaurants in the Quarter that are good and reasonably priced. The Camellia Grill now has a place on Chartres Street in the Quarter. The Clover Grill on Bourbon Street is great for breakfast or lunch. The Louisiana Pizza Kitchen on Decatur Street is tasty. Also a good restaurant for lunch is Nina's Place near the Customs House on Iberville; it is full of locals at lunch. Fiorella's located in the French Market comes highly recommended by the crew of the Str. NATCHEZ, and it was good too. Although not in the Quarter, my last suggestion is take the Cemetery Streetcar out to Mandino's Restaurant on Canal Street. It's off of the tourist lists and at lunch it's packed with the local populace.

Pat O'Briens is the best place in New Orleans to get a good, reasonably priced cocktail, but they do not serve food.

One hurricane you can drive back to the hotel. :D

Two hurricanes you better walk back to the hotel. :)

Three hurricanes, they will carry you back to the hotel.

Opps...that's Mena's Palace at 200 Chartres Street (corner of Chartres an Iberville).

Hi tallyho8,

Pat O's does have a restaurant; it's right off the courtyard....but why would anyone want to eat there is another story.

Since seafood is not a high priority they may want to go to the French Market. While they're browsing they can sample the food at the kiosks that are open. Great variety and pretty good prices.

Another suggestion, if anyone likes a great burger then they should try the Port of Call restaurant on the corner of Esplanade and Dauphine. Caution: No french fries but it comes with an oustanding baked potato.:)

Y'all are great... thanks for the suggestions so far... keep 'em coming!

P.S. I have had one hurricane, or maybe it was two, from Pat O's. It's been about 10 years though. Holy Moly! We might not care where we end up eating.

Hi Tallyho8,

Please see my post on the "Port - Hawaii - Kona to Mauna Kea Summit / Mauna Loa Observatory " board. I have a question about the summit road on Mauna Kea.

Thanks,

Ellen

Since you have a few days to spend in NO, I would recommend taking a morning cooking demonstration at the NO School of Cooking. http://www.neworleansschoolofcooking.com/classes.html

Our instructor Anne was very entertaining. She cooked Gumbo, Jambalaya, Pina Colada Bread Pudding and Prahlines which the class enjoyed afterwards along with cold iced tea and beer. If you are still hungry, Johnny's Po Boys is directly accross the street.

My friend provided these other website links that may be helpful to you:

Most of the clientele at Grand Isle is local. It is located behind Harrah's casino, is casual, spacious and airy. I am normally not a seafood eater but enjoyed the pecan crusted catfish. The prices were reasonable and portions quite large. The menu had lots of poultry and beef selections in addition to the usual gumbo, po boys and alligator dishes.
