Crossing betwenn Dutch and French side

Is there any type of delay crossing the border between the two sides of the island?Thanks

it's no different going from one state to the next unless there's a toll bridge.

Our taxi driver last time told us that we needed passports and that if we didn't have them, it was a $50 per person fine both going and coming back. We freaked out.

You can tell you are crossing countries by a small post at the side of the road. Also, the quality of the pavement and color changes. Sort of like crossing from one county or state to another in the USA.

We've never gone to the French side, but think we might on our next trip. I just don't know if it's worth going there unless we go with a tour. Any thoughts?

You are allowed to bring cheese and bread back on the ship to enjoy?

I've (fairly recently) brought a Wheel of Gouda back on board to bring home.

We were told that with your ship card, you do not need a passport?? I know it is better to have a passport on hand for anything that may happens but prefer to leave it in the safe...

Along with the ship card we take along a credit card and a photocopy of the first page of our passport just in case.

How long does it take to get from Philipsburg to Marigot (and Grand Case). We will have a little time after our excursion, and would like to explore Marigot more.
