And I do understand that the servers on board make the bulk of their salary from tips, and don't begrudge them a cent, but if they are already receiveing a percentage, then I believe that's fair. I overtip at times stateside, but servers in the USA are taxed on their tips - I don't believe the servers onboard are. And the argument I hear at times, that you should tip on what you WOULD have tipped for a similar meal at a fine dining establishment back home, is a fallacious argument. If the gratuity is included, then the establishment has identified THAT amount as the correct gratuity for the meal being served. Anything above that would have to be for incredibly superior service. And would certainly not be an additional 20%! Anyway, I try to always to be fair, and in return, I expect to be treated fairly, and not like a stupid human ATM. We have done this meal on Princess and it was both wonderful food and the service really was exceptional so I will probably leave something extra but 30 or 40% is out of line, as far I can see.
