doemichael Posted January 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Can anyone tell me how long the walk is from the port to the Cable Car station ? thanks
Martita B. Posted January 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2011 It's a long walk ~I would advise you to take a Taxi. Taxi's in Madeira are very reasonable and will save you precious time. Be sure and visit the Old Market also ~~buy beautiful exotic flowers to take back to the ship. And certainly while at the Old Market view the "fish mongers" ~a sight to see! Enjoy Martita B. Morgans Posted January 28, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2011 Some cruise lines provide a shuttle to take you into the centre of Funchal. It's an easy walk from the shuttle stop and well worth doing. The gardens at the top are spectacular.
Rare Hlitner Posted January 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2011 It is a hike, but its a nice walk much of which is along a nice park that fronts the water (its also possible to walk through some of downtown on the way to the cable car). If you enjoy walking and want to see some of Funchal than take the walk (about thirty minutes). Otherwise, if you are happy just going from point A to point B grab a taxi. The cable car is great, the views at the top are fantastic, and the gardens (already mentioned in a prior post) are also worthy if you enjoy gardens.
