sduprie Posted January 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Has anyone taken a bicycle tour in Da Nang? Our ship offers a tour through Cam Thanh. I'm just wondering about traffic...I have cycled in the south of Italy and also in California where I consider the "back roads" to be pretty hairy for a cyclist. Also, if anyone has recommendations for a tour company that offers sight-seeing via bicycles in Vietnam (Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City) that would be appreciated too. Thanks. S. zula Posted January 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Hi, A few years ago I did a two week land tour in Vietnam. You saw a lot of bigger school children coming from school on their bicycles going home. I remember this because especially the girls were very gracious riding their bicycles wearing a white Ao Dao (tradional vietnamese dress). I suppose it depends on how much you ride a bicycle at home. We in the lowlands of Europe use bicycles to go to school, shops, work,... so we are used to ride alongside cars in traffic, I don't know how popular a means of transportation a bicycle is in Texas. I have a bicycle tour planned in Bangkok in February, last time we did one was about ten years ago, and I only have good memories. You may want to contact these people. http://www.indochinatravel.com/country/vietnam/index.html Talk to Patrick Morris. He is in San Francisco and has bicycled all over Asia. They are truly bicycle specialists in Asia. They may NOT take you on day tours. They now have a minimum for tour prices. BUT they may be able to recommend if they cannot accommodate you. sduprie Posted February 1, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Thanks for the posts. Bicycles in Texas are pretty much recreational only. We live in Austin, which has a huge biking population (thank you Lance). Because we are a big state, we have plenty of room to ride. I suspect Vietnam will be a little more crowded! Also, thanks for the link for the Indochinatravel.com I'm spending some time now (after I get off this forum!) to research it a bit! S.
