How bad is the smoking on Holland Eurodam?

"How bad are the smokers on the Eurodam"? To that I would answer, they are probably no better or worse then the nonsmokers; however the smell of their cigars or cigarettes may be worse than the smell of the two or three margaritas that others have......

Unless my memory fails me, I remember you two on Veendam as very impressive + acurate medium to long range portable spitoon experts!

My wife is very accurate but she has the advantage with one of her front teeth missing. Less resistance or some such thing.

I'm one of those whiners who have spent good money to rent that 240 sq feet of prime real estate for the week. It's my home including the balcony for the week. When my neighbors light up it's just like they have lit up right in my living room. Maybe I should bring my ghetto blaster. I'm not sure if there is a policy that prohibits me without any consideration for my neighbors to crank it up. I'm not going to change the world and in meantime I'm simply not going to rent a balcony cabin on HAL until their policy changes. I do appreciate the fact that those smokers are operating within the existing policy.

Its a good thing there's no smoke coming from the funnels...

...oh, Nevermind.

Your wife is lovely but your accuracy with simultaneous attack streams from port and starboard was simply astounding! I guess it helps when you're missing those corner molars

And, posters think the HAL clientele is too snooty, elderly and upper crust..... :p

How many Dam Dollars does one win for spitting "nothing but spittoon?"

As far as HAL's smoking survey, they have been doing this for years, so I doubt they are going to change anything soon. I think the survey is to soothe anti-smokers that the line is studying the issue.

Somehow, on my last cruise, I was invited to the question and answer session with the hotel manager and this question came up. He explained that what the surveys are showing them is that while only 8-12% of HAL customers smoke, 40% of HAL customers travel with a smoker. Since Uncle Mel smokes and if HAL eliminated smoking Uncle Mel wouldn't come, neither would the rest of the group.

I sometimes go to those sessions also but that wasn't exactly what I was told at the most current. We were told the % of HAL cruisers who travel with a smoker is not near 40% but, of course, varies a little cruise to cruise, ship to ship.

Actually, Maasdam recently made a further change to their smoking policy. When we recently sailed her, smoking had been banned at the bar in Crows Nest. There are still a few tables to the side where smoking is permitted but we were happy to hear they banned it at the bar.

The surveys IMO are a stalling technique for HAL to finally step up to the plate and get rid of veranda smoking. They are close to doing so but not quite ready.

I imagine that the numbers change from time to time when they report on their survey findings. I was suprised he said it was that high a number. I think the 8-12% varies by ship to ship, sailing to sailing and I'm sure the percent that travel with a smoker also varies. The figures I was given are from my last cruise, just a little over a week ago.

He also reported casino revenues were down on non smoking nights and it has been theorized here that curtailing the smoking in the casino had that impact. He also claimed that Carnival's non-smoking ship was an economic failure. I don't know if that is true, just what was reported to us.

Part of the problem we had was that smoking on outside decks was curtailed while we were in Antarctica. The hotel manager reported that he had to have someplace for smokers to go on those days, so the port side of the Crow's Nest and the casino saw double duty. Those were the days that the smoke was most noticeable.
