Gran Melia Golf Resort

We just "won" our bid at Gran Melia pre cruise. Was really hoping for Caribe Hilton where we stayed last year but didn't get it. Mixed reviews on Gran Melia. Have any of you stayed there? How far is it to the port and what is the best way to get there. There are 4 of us (including 2 young children). Cost? Trip Advisor reviews don't show great things about food (quality and cost). Is there anywhere close that we can eat? Thanks for your help.

Gran Melia is in Rio Grande, its about 1 hour 15 from SJ ports. You need a car or take a taxi (expensive). Had a great pool, the beach it's not good. The main entrance of the hotel is far from the main avenue (#3 street), if you go to eat outside the hotel is imposible if u no had car.

Thanks. With regard to transportation, did you have a rental? Did you rent at the hotel or airport or does anyone know if there is a rental agency somewhat close that we can get it from. Where do you drop it at the port? Sorry for all the questions but we would prefer not to rent at the airport and pay for 2 days of rental + parking fees if we can just get it for one day. Thanks.
