San Pedro recommendations

We just got back from Vision of the Seas Mexican Riviera. We arrived a day early and stayed at the Holiday Inn ($75/nite) San Pedro. The hotel is about 15 blocks to the pier, and they provide a van to get you there for embarkation. Upon check in the front desk said they charged $3 per person for the van service, but the next morning, there was no charge on the bill and when asked, they said No Charge. Confusing. The charge may be to go to Long Beach. There are less than 70 rooms in the hotel. They are huge. If non-smoking is important to you, book early. We didn't and the rooms smelled of tobacco. The windows did open so you could air them out. The best food find was the Gaffey Street Diner. Two blocks east(?) of the hotel. Just turn left going out of the hotel. It opened at 7 am. The food was inventive and inexpensive, the quantities were huge. Just right to get you ready for a cruise. Visit the Gaffey Street Diner, you will be happy. We also walked to a BBQ joint 7 or 8 blocks down the street, next to the Moroccan restaurant. It was also great, perfect for an easy meal without a lot of complications. There were 8 of us, we tried ribs, shrimp, brisket, pork. all was good.

Hi Pat,

Don't know if you remember me from our Splendour Cruise? It's Marsha...We're going on a Mex. Riveria cruise in 3 weeks.:) We'll be on the NCL Star. Saw your post and just wanted to say HI... Did you have a good time? Did the boys have a good time?

Take care.

We ate at the restaurant in the hotel for dinner & breakfast. Both were acceptable, but priced high for the quality. Fair warning, if you book the Park & Sail package, the "free continental breakfast" is just toast, juice, and coffee. No other pastries, no fruit. hat's it. However, they would give you a $4 per person credit towards buying one of their breakfasts.

The shuttle was very convenient going. Coming back involved a bit of a wait, but not unreasonable in my opinion.

marsha, Hello!! Good to hear from you. Are you traveling yet? If so, hope you have a great time. We had a wonderful time. ATV riding in Cabo with Desert Park, horseback riding in Mazatlan with Randy and catamaran and snorkeling in Puerto Vallarta with Shamballa. We all had a wonderful time. My best to you and Gene and the kids. Take care and enjoy, Bye Pat
