birthdaycruiser2011 Posted February 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2011 need some advice with excursions at Mahogany bay and Belize. Has anyone booked the cabanas at Mahogany Bay from Carnival? Looks like a nice beach, but ??would be crowded- does everyone mostly stay there?? What about the snorkeling n Belize. Is it safe to book at the pier to save $$
Rare crewsweeper Posted February 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2011 Some cruisers have booked the MB cabanas. Seems a bit steep in price for what you get. But you should do a search here and read reviews and see some of the pictures. The cabana area is merely an extension on the beach that has been roped off. The water is typically very still and not a crystal blue as the silty bottom gets churned up by the ships. Not a good snorkel spot, IMO. Better snorkeling is to be had on the WEst Bay/West End. Or try Las Palmas which just opened between MB and Coxen Hole. Or one of the snorkel operators like Upchaya. As far a Belize, you are probably better served prebooking with one of the private operators like Coral Breeze or Ecotoursbelize. Read some of the reviews on snorkeling on the Belize board. The alternative is to book a snorkeling excursion through your ship. These folks will pick you up at the ship and tae you to the reefs. Saves a tender trip to and from the teneder dock. islanderbob654 Posted February 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2011 We took a taxi to West Bay and hung out at The Beach Club San Simon. They have a website that's easy to find. The beach in West Bay is absolutely beautiful, and you'll be away from the crowds near the ship. The cover charge was around $5 per person I think, and the taxi was around $20 per person round trip (the driver waits for you all day and collects the money when you get back to the ship). The Beach Club has really nice beach beds with thatched roofs--you definitely won't be disappointed. Check out my cruise video to see a glimpse of it--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKV0CLujZyQ. Just fast forward to 7:00.
