kassimer1 Posted February 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2011 I think if i took a 5 yr old i would make them wear a life vest because it is dark in the caves and you wouldnt want them to slip thru the tube. The water really was very calm and they link you all together and the guide is right with you so i think they should be fine as long as they can do the 30 minute walk on stones the size of prunes and kiwis. I know it killed my feet. i would hate to have to carry a 5 yr old all that way.
CeleBrat Posted February 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2011 We cave-tubed last year, and the kids were 7 and 9. Totally fine, and safe. Everyone had to wear a life vest, and the kids wore appropriately-sized vests. You also MUST wear water shoes of some sort, so no worries about stepping on the rocks. Lastly, you are always hooked together with your group. Since our group included the kids, they added 2 additional guides that swam alongside to ensure their safety. We used an independent tour operator (Major Tom), who gladly accommodates kids, whereas the cruise ship tours sometime have an age restriction. I felt very comfortable about it being safe.
