gymbomb: How much fun! A Girl Cruise:)! Thank you for posting casual photos. Sometimes we get so focused on Formal Night and forget the daytime casual outfits!

You look comfortable AND put-together. Clark flipflops even LOOK comfy! Loft and Land's End are always good quality, too.

Hi ladies! Sorry for jumping in here for an off topic question but I need some input.

We cruise in less than 3 months and I am agonizing over what to wear to board the ship (yes I am being dramatic, but I hope my fellow fashionistas will understand). My dilemma is we will be flying out of Philadelphia the morning of at 6:40 AM which means leaving home around 4:00 AM. I want to be wearing something that will not only be comfortable for a long period of time and travel but also cute. And lastly, I want to feel like I'm going on a cruise! I have plenty of travel outfits but none that transcend boarding a cruise ship.

So question, what do you ladies recommend???

Hello fellow East Coaster. We have flown down to Ft. Lauderdale many times....the Allure, the Oasis etc. With a 3 hour flight and not being able to get in your cabin until about 1:30.......stay as comfy as possible. You are luckily traveling a great time of year, where you do not have to lug around a jacket or layers of clothes.

Everyone is in comfy clothes, as it makes for a long day. I do not know your age, but capri's, or shorts with a cute blouse or tee shirt and cute little sandals are perfectly fine. Even a cute little sundress. People that wear jeans at this time of year are uncomfortable, as it will be hot and humid once you are in Ft. Lauderdale. No one is dressed up.

I am very jealous, as you are going on one of my favorite ships...OMG...you are going to have an amazing time.:o

Just bought 3 pairs of Clarks flip flops....Comfy and they last a very long time. :)

I just got my first ones last year, but I wear a lot of Clarks to work and should have known their flip flops would be just as good as their real shoes!

I just came home from my cruise with 4 unworn outfits! It was just a blur! We had kids on this trip, and many times I just threw on my suit with my dress over it, and wore that all day. I thought I'd have a day outfit, and a night outfit and it just didn't happen every day. I also just wore a dress over my suit to go snorkeling when I thought I'd wear a top and capris on the boat. Oh well! I have lots of cute spring/summer clothes for home now and memories of the trip!

Also - I took lots of photos, not so many were taken of me. So I don't have pictures but I'll post what I do have when I sort through them all. Just got home last night and there is MUCH to do!

My boys ended up with unworn outfits too - but mostly for dinner, because we opted for windjammer or room service a few nights. My daughter was the only only who wore almost everything she brought - she was my fashionista!

Good advice! I am 21 and leaning towards wearing a sundress, as the are one of my favorite things to wear. I'm just a little nervous I will be chilly on the flight but nothing a light cardigan can't fix.

I'm so excited to experience the Oasis! :D

iCruise717: We are alike in that chilly airplanes can be an issue, even in summer:rolleyes:. A sundress and lightweight cardigan would be a good choice - comfortable, shouldn't get all wrinkled from sitting and seat belts, and fits the Ft Lauderdale weather. Flat or low sandals are good for walking through airports.

The first night in the main dining room is casual. If you have room for shoes that are a wee bit dressier, and maybe some jewelry; that would refresh your look. (That's what I do and it makes me feel better to have something that hasn't been worn all day.)

BTW - DH and I, our 2 DSs and their families will be boarding as you are disembarking!

Let us know what you decide to wear (a photo is nice, too!)

Clark's: Most of us would agree that Clark's are a favorite shoe brand...I'll be checking out the selection at zappos.com:).

murfturf: What you describe is what could happen to me, too. All that planning to wear a couple outfits a day can easily go out the window when children are around!

Better to have too much than too little:eek:.

DH and I plan to have some alone time (i.e., in the Solarium) every day and to leave the rest of the family on their own, to do whatever they want...but the more people, the more likely plans don't go as expected.

I'm being practical and realistic about Outfits Planning...and have daytime clothes and dinner attire...we will see what happens...

be careful wearing a dress/ maxi dress.... they could take you in the room and search your legs like they normally would do if you were wearing pants.. i read that on here

I think you might be cold - I usually find my legs/ankes chilly on the plane - esp if you are leaving early morning. I would choose comfort and warmth for the flight - you can always change into your sundress if you wish later on?

Froufie: I agree with you! It's been so-o-o long since we flew to Florida, and you reminded me that some of us need more covering while in the air:eek:. (Hadn't thought about the security check...thanks for the tip Briitini!)

I have a Ralph Lauren white knit pants and jacket outfit that keeps my arms and legs warm. Under the jacket would be a purple halter-style knit top. The jacket zipper is gold so gold sandals let me walk in comfort and style.

The jacket comes off in the Florida heat. We arrive a day before cruising and I pack shorts or Capris for a quick change. The pants will be worn on a couple evenings onboard (after dinner when it could be chilly in the theater, ice show or casino).

True. TSA has a thing for long dresses and skirts. You could be hiding something  They will not necessarily take you into "the room", but may just require you to hike up the dress to above your knees or higher so they can do their rubbing of the legs up to your torso. Several forum sites on the Internet have reported this. I believe the TSA's own website warn about this.

Oh no! I didn't even think of that! Clearly I am not a pro flyer. My other option is a pair of white linen capri pants and a blue/white striped button down from Gap. In that case I would like to change for dinner though.

indiana71: Too bad we won't be sailing at the same time! But I will be sure to post pictures as I pack :D

Thanks for the advice ladies!!

iCruise: you can bring a pashmina on the plane w/you to use as a blanket if your legs get cold (I always have one with me--don't like to use the airline blankets).

White linen capri pants might get very wrinkled after sitting on a plane for a few hours. That never bothers me cause that's the part of the allure of linen, but it's something to keep in mind.

Last June, we flew from CT morning of our Oasis cruise. I wore white denim skirt and turquoise sleeveless top and had my trusty lime green pashmina. Casual and comfy for the plane and the colors made it feel cruise worthy without being over dressed.

HAVE FUN!!! I have to wait until November before I sail again...

CrabbyQ: You were wearing one of my favorite tropical color combinations: turquoise and lime:cool:! also like raspberry and lime.

CCF QUESTION: Do you choose bright tropical colors OR are you a black-and-white-and-a-splash-of-color-for-accent type?

plank: Good to see your post! Hoping we can cruise together again. We would love to do the Southern Caribbean, but DH's schedule hasn't cooperated:(. What ship were you on?

Depends really, I like to travel in black mainly and then as long as it coordinates anything goes on the vacation, well apart from brown, orange and anything too garish generally.

I would have had yellow on that no list too but I have a great pair of yellow thong sandals, so I bought a purse to match which is more lemon and I found a nice yellow/mustard top with sequins in a wide band down the front, so that has found its way to the cruise room! Today my favorite color is black, then purple, gold - has to be the right shade though and most shades of pink within reason, not hot pink though.

Oh and Polka Dots are out, I hate them, along with stripes.

I try to stick with colors that suit me, certain blues, greens, oranges (but not bright orange) etc.

My evening dresses are black, blue, bronze.

Hi everyone,

I spend way too much time reading this forum and looking at all your pretty clothes. I have booked our next cruise on the Celebrity Reflection for next February. We usually cruise NCL and we dress for dinner every night when we're on any cruise because we like to.:). Since we are cruising on a more formal line next time, I decided to go all out and get a long dress as opposed to the cocktail length ones I usually wear. It's by Kay Unger.

You'll have to imagine how I look in it because I don't have a picture of myself in it and even if I did I couldn't paste it because I have never learned how.

Anyway, I am in my 50's, tall and thin. I got the dress on EBay for $69 NWT and the tag was from Neiman Marcus $599. It fits really well which is always iffy when you buy something online.

Please have a look at it and give me some accessory advice!

Great find, and very elegant dress.

I would keep it simple and elegant, strappy evening sandals, (I usually bring strappy evening sandals that will work for multiple outfits), some jewelry, evening purse.

I can't see the embellisments very well, but I think I would probably choose yellow gold jewelry, necklace and bracelet.

Black or gold shoes/purse.

Thanks! The embellishments are amber and gold and black. I think you're right about the gold jewelry even though I am usually a silver person. The neckline isn't as low on me as on the mannequin. I don't like to show too much cleavage. I have a nice long gown in red but maybe I'll go cocktail length second formal night.

Indiana: I tend to wear brighter colors, all in a same "scheme" so it matches my shoes and purses I bring. I like to wear blues and greens! I will wear a brighter dress that I wouldn't wear at home - that's what makes it so fun!

We did a 11 day on the NCL SUN...Southern Carib. Nice itinerary and lots of sea days too. Small ship but such nice people and the crew was great. Doing it again in Jan. for 12 days...they added an island. Come join us!!! Doing a 7 day out of Baltimore to Bahamas in May just to get away before family vacations start:)
