We were in New Orleans for St Pats day last year and saw the parade that is mentioned by the above poster. It was like a small Mardi Gras parade with floats, bands and BEADS.

The only problem was the parade was supposed to start at 6 PM and it probably finally got started around 7:30. It happened to be a cold evening and we didn't dress as warmly as we should have. We had staked out a good spot to view the parade and had been sitting with some people from Canada so we asked them to save our places and we walked back to our hotel, luckily it was in the quarter, and got our coats and then walked back to Decatur street and got our seats on the curb back.

After the last float passed there we walked up to Bourbon street and got a second helping of BEADS because that was the next place it headed. There was a much bigger and more aggressive crowd on Bourbon street than on Decatur.

It was a good way to experience a Mardi Gras style parade but with many fewer people.

Have a great time.
