Hawaii/ French Polynesia Questions

I have been touring the Tahitian and marqusea and trumotua island group for 30 years

Dec to april is cyclone season and hot, himid and very humid. It is the 180 of our northern latitude... Our winter..their summer.

Ocean will be very warm, as will the the plankton bloom... which equals cloudy water and tons of bugs. Hawaii will be at its prime because of its northern location of the equator

It is the most expensive time because it matches the snow-bird escape time.... not because of the weather.

June-July-August wii be the dryest and the best weather.

The Paul Gaugin is clearly the best way to see Tahiti.... far better than any land arrangement whoch can run $1500 a day without meals !!!

We did the Jan 2010 cruise on the Rotterdam and it was a perfect cruise. Weather was great except for our stop in the Fanning Islands and the water was warm and very clear in every place we stopped. A little cool the first 2 days out of San Diego and the last 2 days but other than that perfect weather. We will be doing this cruise again in the near future.

In Bora Bora make sure you do a tour with Patrick. You will find more info about him in the Ports section.

Have a great trip!!

We have done this cruise 5 times soon to be 6. We have gone in Mar/Apr, Jan/Feb and Sep/Oct. Every time but one it has been completely gorgeous. One Jan we had quite a bit of rain. It was still warm and lovely though.

We took one of the first offerings of this itinerary. At first they offered in once a year, then they went to twice and now some years it's three times.

I can almost guarantee that you will never regret taking this cruise and will make memories that will last a lifetime.

blyle: The only tiny bit of what some deemed rough seas would be the 3 days in and out of San Diego. Other than that it was smooth sailing all the way. In and out of SD is always iffy at best and usually a bit chilly for us Southwesterners.

kaklina,

Thanks for the great tips and info. We sailed out of LA and it was a little rocky but nothing I couldn't handle. We used to leave in Arizona in the 70's when Scottsdale was a sleepy old town and Pinnacle Peak was in the middle of nowhere. Wow, how it's changed!!! We loved living there!
