European Shore Excursions-Do they Sell Out

Does anyone know or have heard if the European shore excursions sell out before sailing or would it be safe to wait and book some of them on board? This is this first cruise line that we've sailed where you have to prepay.

We were on a back to back from Malaga in 2009 and also in 2010 - on both occasions there were many excursions available on board.

I guess it depends which ports you visit.

Not everyone is comuter savvy. So cruiselines hold back inventory for those that would normally buy onboard and for impulse buying once the ship has sailed.

No guarantee, but track record says you can buy once onboard...but I would make it a priority to do it quickly.

If there is an excursion you absolutely have to do, then book it in advance. You can always cancel up to 24 hours before the excursion.

They do hold places for booking onboard though so if you are still debating about what to do it shouldn't be an issue.

For example, on my transatlantic, there was one excursion in Cherbourg France that was extremely popular and sold out months in advance for online booking. Even though they held some place for booking onboard, there were not enough places for everybody that wanted them. Other excursions though had plenty of spots.
