What to Do-Pre Cruise & Hotel

My family and I are thinking of arriving in Ft L one day before our cruise in mid-August. Can anyone suggest things to do that day and eve, e.g., beach, attractions, restaurants, etc?

Also, can anyone recommend a nice hotel near the port that is part of the Holiday Inn family of hotels?

Thanks

There is a Holiday Inn on 17th Street but that time of year, I'd prefer to stay on the beach and the only Holiday Inn family hotel I can think of near the port is the Crown Plaza Hollywood Beach.

Again, outdoor things to do during the day in August are going to be beach related.

At night I'd head up to Las Olas and sit outside and dine.

There is a pretty new Crowne Plaza on state rd 84, practically outside one of the gates to Port Everglades. Not really much around it though. We just stayed at the Hollywood Beach Crowne Plaza in January and liked it. It backs on to the waterway, but the owners of the hotel also own the condo across the road and you can get beach access there. Won't be cheap to get there or back though. We had a rental car. The Holiday Inn on 17th at least has shopping and restaurants around it. The beach is probably a $10-15 cab ride from either the HI or the CP on sr 84.

Suggest taking the Water Taxi, I believe iy to be the best and least expensive excursion in the area.
