Emerald Princess - Balcony Doors during high winds

Rewritten, hopefully in a kinder and gentler fashion :)

We were on the Emerald a week or so ago, and had something strange occur.

When we tried to open the balcony door one evening it would not open. Now usually, when we opened the door, we had to turn the handle upwards.

This time however, the only way I was able to open the door was to turn the handle downwards which required a lot of force.

I thought I had broken the door!!

I called passenger services, and they told me that when there are high winds, a button is pressed which causes the balcony doors to open differently and since there were high winds, they had done that. I thought they were kidding me.

The next morning, the door opened normally.

Has anyone else had any experience like this?

Hmmmm... on the Crown Princess in January, on the southbound leg of the voyage, the balcony door was difficult to open when it was windy out. We attributed that to increased air pressure against the door.

Later we had more problems with the door being difficult to open, contacted Passenger Services and they sent someone out to check it. He apparently sprayed WD40 on the rubber bits and that made it worse. The next day, another gentleman came out and replaced the rubber bits and the door was finally fixed. But by that time, we were heading north again and were on the leeward side...
