hunt182644 Posted February 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2011 We are looking into another Panama Canal trip, have never sailed Holland. In need of opinion of those who have cruised on Statendam. Specifically deck A category FF, F,or EE. Would appreciate feedback from those who have had cabins on this deck. Any other bits of info to help guide us on a new ship would also be appreciated. Looking at the Nov. San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale trip.
SwissMyst Posted February 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2011 Recently on Statendam Panama but can't help on your cabin choice. However, we really liked the port stops on the San Diego-Fort Lauderdale itinerary a lot. A great combination with highlights in every one. We particularly liked the Coffee and Flower Plantation excursion in Puerto Chiapas and we just recently re-ordered some of their superb coffee to get it delivered in the US . The ship was in good order, had some initial engine problems before departing from San Diego the first night, but no problems from that point on with the engines. Food in the MDR was good, but not consistently excellent like our recent Zuiderdam cruise. Piano bar player was excellent. Decor recently refurbished. We had no problems with our A/C and staff was its usual helpful, friendly selves. Sooooo, other than your primary questions about those particular rooms, Statendam was a fine HAL experience and this was a terrific itinerary from SD to FLL -- we also liked HAL's FLL transfer tour of the city and a 90 minute waterway boat tour, if you have sufficient time before any departure flight -- after 3pm I believe is their requirement. durangoscots Posted February 26, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2011 I did the Panama Canal on that deck... found it quiet and comfortable. Cabin was toward the bow but not too much motion. Great trip!!! Susan
deserttraveler Posted February 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2011 I've been one deck up, also near the bow, and the room was spacious and well-laid out. I think forward would be better than aft, as I've heard there can be vibration there.
