Keep Reservation or Rebook with another line? Re: Smoking

You may smoke in the casino on Royal except for formal nights.

Got off the Mariner of the Seas and they have DISCONTINUED the non-smoking nights on the Formal nights... Lots of complaints about this since NO one really wants to clean their formal wear from the smoke that proliferates in RCCL casinos during the evenings.... Thank goodness that the "X" brand has this non-smoking casino policy all the time...

Thanks everyone for the input.:D

For those of you who are cruising on Celebrity for the first time because of the no-smoking policies have a great trip and if I happen to be on the same cruise don't worry because I do not smoke in unauthorized areas be it cruising or landlocked.

Those of you who are encouraging me to quit, thank you.

Now all I have to do is think really hard and make my decision before final payment is due.

Have you thought about using an E-Cig during your cruise? It will give you the nicotine minus the smoke, smell and tobacco. I don't know if you can use the e-gig in the casino or not but it is really not smoking.

Just a thought.

I am glad you brought that up, as I too, was surprised that it was discontinued. I wrote RCI about this and got a phone call. I was told that it is up to the individual Hotel Director as to whether to have Non Smoking Formal Nights. I had assumed that since there were two large groups of gamblers on board my sailings that they changed the rules just for them, but was informed otherwise. This was back in January that I was on them, out of LA. I was unaware that they still allow smoking every night in the casino and am curious if this is true on all RCI ships?

Having recently cruised on Princess with many smokers if is a great mistake to book on such a ship if smoking upsets you. Our Princess Brochure stated that smoking was only allowed in certain outdoor areas of ship but unfortunately when we got on board there was smoking allowed in every cabin and varandah.

We had a connecting door with cabin next door and our cabin was full of cigarette smoke all the time.It took us days to wash all our clothes to try to get the smell out of them.

Of course secondary smoke is a health hazard so this was anything but a healthy vacation. We are cruising with Celebrity this time to avoid the problem.

My dh and I booked our summer cruise with Celebrity (again) and now found out about the new (to us) smoking rules aboard Celebrity.

I do not smoke in our home so not smoking in the cabin would not be a problem for me at all. The big non smoking issue for me is not being able to smoke in the casino. Silly but true.

I look at this in two different ways. It would be a great time to quit but I am not sure if trying to quit would be difficult for my dh to endure.

The other option is to rebook our cruise with a different cruise line.

Just looking for some feedback. TIA

If you want to smoke in a casino, check out Voyager of the Seas. As a non-smoker, I would compare it to a big old dirty ashtray. There was smoking in the non-smoking area as well.

The only nights where the casino was non-smoking were the 2 formal nights; and boy, did the smokers complain.

I couldn't participate in the slot pull due to the smoking in there.

Once again thanks for the input everyone. It looks like I'll be smoking (or not) a lot less very soon.

As another poster stated I do go to Disney (neices, nephews, grandneice) and am lucky enough to travel to other destinations during the year without having any "smoking issues".

For those of you who shared your "quit smoking" stories, thank you for the encouragement and congratulations on your success. BTW, I cannot take Chantix or Welbutrin due to medical issues but I am thinking of trying a laser treatment next month.

I am still thinking of keeping our reservations with Celebrity due to the itinerary, ship and our cabin, both we like tremendously but still looking at all of the other choices as well.

Just a quick note of encouragement, my DH smoked for 50 years, would go down 8 floors in the winter at work. The original patch worked for him, thank heaven. If he can do you can with your great attitude. Maybe a cruise on a beautiful Celebrity cruise is just what you need to start. Good luck:D

Sadie

Thanks for coming back and giving us an update and note of appreciation.

Den

You're very welcome. Of course I appreciate most of the input and would not leave a thread without an update.

It's funny. For some reason I only have a few posts but I have been on these boards for well over 7 years, possibly closer to 10. I reset my password and it reset everything.;)
