Questions abt Oceania/Nautica

Please be patient with this new person who has some ??'s abt Oceania & Nautica.

We are seriously thinking of signing up this week for Nautica's Asian cruise from Tokyo to Hong Kong 3/24-4/9/12. In looking at possible cabins, it does not look as if one doesn't have a private veranda, there are no places to go to be 'on deck' & viewing the passing world, either sitting or standing. (I do not mean sitting by the pool). ???

We are sensitive to smoke, & one of the reasons we are looking at Oceania is because of no smoking in cabins. Do people smoke from private verandas? Enforcement? We understand smokers wish to have a spot or two, but don't want to be in the neighborhood.

What kind of enticements/discounts is one generally offered for signing up for another cruise, during a cruise?

Is the spa food extra, or available along with other choices?

Didn't see a roll call for this cruise yet - anyone else considering it?

Have learned a great deal from lurking at this site! TIA, Shining Clem

Just finished Nautica Singapore to Hong Kong. It was delightful. A number of people gather whenever the ship is docking or leaving to supervise and make sure the crew are doing it properly. This is normally on deck 10 and 11. Also there is usually a gathering of early risers in Horizons for coffee about six in the morning. There are also a few deck chairs on 5 on each side.

Smoking is not allowed on verandahs. there are only 2 smoking holes on the ship. One in Horizons and 1 at the aft corner of the pool deck. This is one of the real benefits of oceania. It was enforced. There is a 5% discount on top of any other inducements to sign up on board. the booking can be transferred to your T.A. Enjoy your cruise.

I do have to say that once upon a time the ban on smoking on your veranda was not enforced as well as it might be. I have some friends who were very bothered on a few cruises by neighbors smoking on their verandas, which made it impossible for my friends to use theirs.

But that all changed after the Princess fire. Oceania wasn't the only cruiseline to realize that there are bigger dangers than a neighbor not liking the smell of smoke.

(Having said that, we've never been bothered by a neighbor's smoking where he shouldn't.)

Thanks Earl -

Spouse will more likely be pounding the door at the bridge, wanting to see the charts, and plot the navigation course...... LOL!!

We once had a neighbor who literally shouted orders to the crew in the docking process for 2 days into a cruise in the Carribean. He stoped after his wife refused to go to the public dining room with him, and had her meals in their room on day 3. LOL! George is now overseeing the docking processes & progress all over the world, wherever they allow a big nose, with the Harbormaster in the Heavens.

Thanks for your info & the giggle of a remembrance!

There are a great many places to "be on deck" on the Nautica.

005117.jpgOn deck 5 there is a very large open promenade deck (with deck chairs), under the lifeboats.

Deck 12 is a completely open sun deck, although the forward portion (where the private cabanas are) is surrounded by a glass windscreen.
