My wife and I are sailing on the Century 4/29. On our last cruise we had trouble finding each other without cell phones. Does Celebrity rent walkie talkies, or can we bring our own?

My wife and I are sailing on the Century 4/29. On our last cruise we had trouble finding each other without cell phones. Does Celebrity rent walkie talkies, or can we bring our own?

 

They do not rent any so bring them if you want them.

Do people find walkie talkies worthwhile? We bought '16 mile ones' that were rated 1 mile for the city. When we tested them we could not connect fore-to-aft up 3 decks on a ship 1000 feet long. Pretty much worthless for us. We'll use them at the beach instead.

You can bring your own but whether they work or not is another story. My last cruise was on the Norwegian Spirit which is a similar size as the Century. We had very mixed results. Sometimes they would work, sometimes not. Even on the same deck forward to aft we would have problems. But, as with everything, YMMV.

These radios are rated for open space. Inside a tin can like a ship you will never get good reception. On open deck yes, between levels with a lot of obstruction, no. Best to plan your day like the old days and set your meeting points.
