Cuizer2 Posted March 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2011 Personally I would rather have the fuel surcharge and lower cruise price, but that is just me. Others may not view this the same way I am.
phish tales Posted March 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2011 Check out the latest UK News from Cruise Critic: Will U.S. Cruise Lines Reinstate Fuel Surcharges? Continue reading for more details More... as we all know, the cruise lines are in business to make a profit. if adding a fuel surcharge is what they have to do, well than i am all for it. if we can afford to cruise, i am sure we can all afford a few hundred dollars more. when fuel prices come down the surcharge will be removed. so as they say "grim and bear it".. happy cruising :):):)
RHefley228 Posted March 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2011 I don't see how they can avoid it if fuel prices keep increasing. Allegiant Air is considering a new pricing structure that would allow them to increase the price of an air ticket after it's been purchased for the same reason. Rare insidecabin Posted March 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2011 With UK contracts retrospective charges can cause issues for the cruise lines because of the 2% 10% rules on surcharges in the regulations eg from a RCI T&C. only if the amount of the increase in our costs exceeds 2% of the total cost of your holiday (excluding any amendment charges), will we levy a surcharge. If any surcharge is greater than 10% of the cost of your holiday (excluding any amendment charges), you will be entitled to choose one of options (a), (b) and © as set out in clause 5.5 where 5.5c is C. cancelling or accepting the cancellation in which case you will receive a full and quick refund of all monies you have paid to us. So for very cheap cabins the surcharge could be over 10% so people can cancel for expensive suites could be under 2% so they can't charge it. Fred Olsen have changed to % charging to get round this issue. http://www.fredolsencruises.co.uk/News/2011/Fred.-Olsen-Cruise-Lines-clarifies-position-on-rising-fuel-costs
