Are there any hotels in this area that allows you to park your car there at a better rate than what you would be charged at the pier? I believe I have read about a hotel that does this with an overnight stay and also provides a shuttle to the port.

There are 3 hotels in the area which have free parking and shuttle to the port if you stay pre-cruise. The Amerisuites on 17th, LaQuinta Airport and Springhill Suites in Dania. The Amerisuites is available through valuetrips.com, Priceline and Hotwire, LaQuinta on Priceline, Hotwire and parksleepfly.com and best way to get the Springhill Suites is usually Marriott's web site.

In addition, the Embassy Suites has reduced parking fees - $6/night.

Always stay at the Amerisuites because they do allow me to leave the car while cruising.
