Video Poker (for real $) on your stateroom TV.

No doubt this has already been brought up, but I was surprised (as I had not read a thing about it) that when we boarded the Epic on 2/26/11 I was able to play Video Poker (and slots) on the TV! This feature WAS disabled while in port (when the real casino was closed).

Does this exist on other NCL ships as well?

After playing ($25/hand) for a couple of hours - I learned that this type of play does NOT count towards any points on your players card. Oh well, I still managed to come out ahead! From a short talk with a (an assistant?) manager in the casino, it sounded like it might count towards your points at some point in the future.

The pay tables are right in line with those in the casino: POOR (6/5)

The menu system is all quite intuitive. You can load up to $500 per day from your ship board account onto your TV "gaming" account. At any time you can quit and shift your gaming balance right back onto your ship card account.

In the Freestyle Daily I saw a promotion running one day (perhaps more, but I can't recall) where they indicated that anyone playing could lose up to $20 and have it refunded. I took advantage of it for both my account and Cheryl's. I won that day, so it did not apply, but I managed to lose $20 pretty quickly in Cheryl's name ( :o ). As promised, the next day it was magically back on her "gaming account". I promptly blew through that, but I could have just as easily transferred it back to the ship card/account.

COOL !!

So far only the Epic. They are probably waiting to see if there is any pay back on the investment. Personally as much as I love to gamble internet and tv don't do it for me so haven't done either and probably never will.

I feel like the internet is a scam with monies going to foreign countries, money laundering etc.

Wonder what type of safeguard(s) they have installed to make sure one of the kids doesn't access this through the room TV and lose a lot of their parent's money.

No safeguards as near as I could tell - but perhaps since there were no minors in our cabin, that feature was not activated (likely reaching there!)...

I do now recall TWO incidents where the game MISPLAYED. Once I had two pairs (jacks and kings) and held all of them (going for the full house). When I drew, one of the kings which I held vanished (replaced with a 10 or something) and in the draw spot, I got a king. Now, I can't tell you whether it was the same suit (king) or not. But either way, I was a bit shocked. I half convinced myself that perhaps I did not HOLD that spot/card. Cheryl was sitting right next to me reading a book and she realized that something had happened (due to my comment... :o). On the very next hand, and she was watching this time, I was dealt two kings. I carefully held BOTH, and then DREW. YEP - one of the cowboys rode out of town! This time though I did not get one back!

I immediately called the casino and was told that there was likely some problem with the modem, and that they would have to reset it - and that I should not try again for about 30-45 minutes. They did credit my account $20. I asked if this happened often, and did not really get a straight answer - surprise, surprise (in my best Gomer Pyle voice, LOL)!

I was on Epic same cruise as you and did not realize Video Poker was available on the TV. Were there different Video Poker games such as Double Double Bonus Poker or Deuces Wild or just Jacks or Better? What was the minimum wager for each hand? I like to play the quarter machines. How do you play? Is it like a wii program? Thanks.

Just a thought...this is a great way to gamble and not be subjected to cigarette smoke in the casino.

I had to go back and check my photos (see below), but they did have 4 options for VP:

> Jacks or Better

> Deuces Wild

> Double Bonus

> Double Double Bonus

Sorry, I only have a pic of the pay tables for Deuces Wild.

As I recall, the default unit bet is $0.25

On the Epic, that gaming was in all rooms. The regular video poker was a 6/5 pay but if you played double double it was 8/5 if I remember. You can play nickel all the way up to $5.00.

The room casino was a life saver for me as the Valentines cruise has 3 sea days of bad weather and I caem down with a Upper Resp infection and could not take the air in the casino for more then 10 minutes.
