kml2000 Posted March 23, 2011 Author #26 Share Posted March 23, 2011 I did pre-book the Zip n Dip with Victor Bodden. The cost is $65 per person if you zip and $25 if don't zip. He has a web site that details his tours if you google search his name + Roatan. I'm not sure if we can post links to tour operators here (for some reason I think there is a guideline about that). We got off the ship as soon as I noticed other people disembarking which was a little earlier than in the Fun Times. We were not back at the ship two hours before sail and we had enough time to enjoy the excursion but not enough time in this port (not the tour operators fault obviously). We all wished we had a full day in Roatan. It is absolutely gorgeous and the tour was great. As I stated before, it was just myself and my DD travelling. I booked this specific excursion because it was a "group" excursion and there would be other people and not just the two of us. IF I had a complaint, it was that once we got to the tour bus, we had to wait a while on two people who had reserved but didn't show. The paperwork we got when we were confirmed on the tour said it would leave an hour after ship dock, so you had an hour to get there. When that hour had passed, several of us on the boat reminded the tour guide of that and said it was time to go that the others had missed out. I know they don't want to leave people because of the tour dollars, but we also felt like we would miss out because of the short amount of time. All of us were willing to wait the hour, but not much more. So.......IF there was a complaint, this might qualify. It takes a BUNCH to ruin something for me, and this didn't do it either. :D In saying that, all but two people in our bus were on our roll call (and they could have been on the roll call and we didn't know it). We didn't "plan" this, it just wound up that way. IF you have an active roll call here, you might try to book a private tour through Bodden tours and do the same things then you wouldn't be waiting on anybody - just a suggestion. Roatan was a GREAT day. My daughter is ready to just fly there and spend time. She noted the resort right by the beach we went to. I'm not sure, but I think she believes I have lots of $$$$ - NOT. I am sure her leaving for college this fall will take any extra $$$ we have for vacation...... One last thing, I recommend you pack the travel pack of wet wipes if you do this trip. We played with the monkeys, fed them, had them climbing all over us. It was nice to have wet wipes to wipe our hands and arms. I have really got to get to work.....I just SO want to re-live this last week. :)

pzerba Posted March 23, 2011 #28 Share Posted March 23, 2011 I uploaded them all the Photobucket last night and tried the copy and paste but didn't get the image. Well.....I did a "post preview" and didn't see the image. Maybe if I had just posted the picture would have been there. I will try it again tonight. On mine, if I hover the mouse arrow over the picture I want, a small window pops open. In that window, there are 4 entries. The last one is IMG Code, if I left-click there it briefly will flash "copied". At the point, literally come to your post, put your cursor where you want the pic and hit Ctrl-V to paste. There is no need to do anything with this forums image buttons or links. Hope this helps!
tucida Posted March 23, 2011 #29 Share Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks so much for the review. My husband and I are leaving in 17 days and we are also going to Nachi Cocum in Cozumel. Really looking forward to it. It is really interesting to hear so many negative reviews about the MDR. I have read so many of them, hopefully Carnival will read these reviews and pay attention to them. Again thanks for the review.
kml2000 Posted March 23, 2011 Author #30 Share Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks so much for the review. I want to clarify that my food was good and I got what I ordered and in a mostly timely manner. What lacked in the MDR for me was the follow up - sauces, condiments, water refills, etc and the "special touch". We have cruised before and our waiters knew I wanted coffee after my meal and always had it ready. The third or fourth night in the MDR on the Legend the waiter finally figued out I would ask for lemons every night so they were on the table after that (other cruises, second night they were there). I just want to reiterate that my food was good and I didn't wait on hour for it. This did NOT ruin my cruise :) oh......I forgot....HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!! kml2000 Posted March 23, 2011 Author #32 Share Posted March 23, 2011 yeah!!!!!! success. I think the key is not to use the picture icon thing at the top of the reply box. I don't have much time, but will post more pics tonight. saying that....I want to say that when I looked at my pictures I realized I don't have a lot of pics of the ship. I walked the entire ship many times but apparently didn't take a lot of pics. I do think I have some you will enjoy though!

Bostonguy2010 Posted March 23, 2011 #34 Share Posted March 23, 2011 Thank you for your review. I have cruised on the Inspiration (last April) and will be going with DGF and some friends on the 17th...we can't wait. I just tried to book Nachi Cocom (went last April and had a BLAST) but it is apparently "sold out" for the day...contacted the person at reservations so we'll have to hear back. Any other pictures you have would be great

kml2000 Posted March 24, 2011 Author #37 Share Posted March 24, 2011 I loved the theatre on this ship. For some reason it was just so pretty to me. I'm not a design person at all, but maybe a tuscan feel....

kml2000 Posted March 24, 2011 Author #39 Share Posted March 24, 2011 Grand Cayman was not my favorite port. We just shopped, ate an expensive burger at Margaritaville, and went to the beach. I didn't tell the cab driver to go to a specific beach (my own fault) and he dropped us at a place with a sign that said Cadillac Jack's. This area was crowded and there were chairs lined way up and down the beach to rent. We only had about an hour there so we walked to the right to an empty spot to put our towels down. Unfortunately, this part of the beach was pretty rocky and it was almost impossible to enjoy the beach there. We had an "okay" day and the beach issue was mostly my fault....but here are a few pics.... Lots of ships: Lots of people snorkeling at Eden Rock: The rocky beach: Pool at Margaritaville (I found this interesting....) Margaritaville from across the street: Headed "home" on the tender:

kml2000 Posted March 24, 2011 Author #41 Share Posted March 24, 2011 Belize - we never went into Belize City. We did the Goff's Caye snorkeling. The island was very pretty. The water was cold and choppy and I chose to just enjoy the island. My DD snorkeled and said it was pretty neat, but some of it looked dead. kml2000 Posted March 24, 2011 Author #42 Share Posted March 24, 2011 Roatan was my daughter's favorite day....and a close tie to Nachi Cocom for me. Roatan is a beautiful place. I would love to spend more time there. We did the Zip n Dip with Victor Bodden and it worked out well. Here is the maintenance dog - name tag and everything. He seemed a little tired: At the zip line and the animals. These are at Victor's home, but it didn't feel weird to me. It was more like a business:

pomm1972 Posted March 24, 2011 #50 Share Posted March 24, 2011 Excellent review. I liked that you were able to give a constructive review, pointing out the areas where they could use improvement, without it coming off as negative. This is how a review should be written. I fell in love with this ship almost 2 years ago and are very much looking forward to sailing her again in July. Your thoughts on Roatan reflect mine completely. I loved that place so much that when I came home I was looking for real estate there. Unfortunately, everyone loves it and the real estate is super high. Here, silly me thinking I discovered this gem yet to be discovered. I went to Maya Key last time, which now has been converted to a carnival excursion at twice the price. But its still worth it IMHO. Hearing about Gilligan's Island has made me decide that this is where I want to go in Belize and thanks for that!
