Boat ride to Altun Ha

Reports on this vary. But it mainly depends on the time of year you are there. In the late Spring and Summer months, it will be very hot and muggy. Plus you may or may not see any wildlife. Better to do in the winter or early spring dry seasons.

If you're doing a cruise ship excursion, buses will most likely have A/C. Doesn't always work though. Private vendors vehicles vary from good buses, school buses and small vans.

Not necessarily - we took a cruise ship excursion and they used an old school bus with no shocks, springs or AC. It was a miserable ride. The excursion was bus to Altun Ha, lunch and then river cruise back. It was a small, overloaded boat. We got stuck on a sandbar at the mouth of the river and were eaten alive swarms of bugs. The guy driving the boat had to get out and try to push us off the sandbar. He barely managed to get back in as the boat started to move. Beautiful scenery etc, but horrible transport.

We did this tour while on NCL Jewel. They spilt our group in half. Our half took a bus out to the sight and the other half took the boat. We took the bus out and the boat back. Boat ride was alot of fun and we did see quite a bit of wild life. It did start to rain but that only lasted a short while. We thought it was one of the best ship excursions we have ever done.
