Want to upgrade cabin but balconies are all waitlisted

How would this work? There is a big difference in price - do I have to pay that now or only if the room opens up?

 

The cruise is in less than a month, should I just assume a room won't open up? :( I am so bummed, I knew I should have upgraded last week.

If everything you are interested in upgrading to is waitlisted, you can add your name to the waitlist. You won't pay the extra unless the higher priced stateroom becomes available. A month from sailing? I would guess you have maybe a 50/50 (or less) chance of a balcony cabin becoming available on this short of a countdown (a lot depends on how many others are on the waitlist ahead of you). You would have to pay the diffference between what you have already paid and the cost of the balcony when you get one. Since the cabins are all waitlisted, I would not expect a good price if you do get one.
