Freeport....... Anyone Know of??

Any good shopping in Freeport? Anything besides the usual t -shirts and trinkets? Any quality stores?

Thanks if you can help.

There are some quality stores at Port Lucaya to go with lots of tourist souvenirs shops.

The International Bazaar has emerged as a good place to visit for not-so-touristy shopping, with better prices and some nice original handicrafts, bags and clothing (the lady who designed the Miss Universe outfits this year has a shop there) and also a good variety of cheap novelties at the chinese stores, but go to the Arcade at the far end which is fully open now, not the straw market area where you drive in which is still deserted. It's not in great shape, and still 20% empty, and still feels like a ghost town most days, but there are about 70 stores there now. Mostly best for people who have "been there done that" in Lucaya, as the Bazaar isn't yet a great representation of Freeport - it's still pretty run down and empty, but getting better every day.

Lots of other shops downtown, fashion in particular, but not as organized for first time visitors - better to stick to the malls unless you're a veteran of Freeport and have some time to explore.

Is that the International Bazzar that you pass on the way from the port to Our Lucaya? Is so any idea on how much cab fare is from Our Lucaya to the Bazzar? and then from the Bazzar back to the port.....if this is it then we might like to stop ther on the way back to the pier and don't want to have to pay double cab fare.

thanks for the help!

Yes, you pass it on the way to Lucaya. Taxi fare is typically $19.00 to the Bazaar and $14.00 from there to Lucaya, but only $27.00 directly from the pier to Lucaya, so you can probably work out something with the taxi driver, particularly if you have several people. However, from the ship you have a $5.00 per person shared shuttle that runs directly to Lucaya and back, so that may work out more economically for you.
