Tipping Question

Regarding tipping for drinks - as I understand it, the tip has already been added to the drink price (15% ?)

Apologies for misleading folks here - I was getting confused with Celebrity''s policy.

There is no 15% gratuity added on P&O

Just to clarify then......

should you tip the bar staff as you go or if you choose to give them something at the end of the cruise?

Tip at the end, it is easier and you don't have to carry around change. When aboard the only cash i spend is in the casino or on tips.

Right so if i pay the tips for the waiters as i am on freedom dining and my cabin steward as well from my on board account when we start the cruise thats it all taken care of !!! How can the waiters on freedom dining know that ive done that and that they are getting the tips ok ??

And if they found out we didnt tip until the end then arent they taking a big chance on giving me poor service just incase i tip them even more than the regulated amount of £1.60 and £1.50 at the end ??

as someone said on here they give £50 per steward / waiter which is more so why would the staff take a chance if they found out that people are paying at the end ??

I don't think you can pay your cabin tips on your on board account. These are paid in cash at the end of your cruise.

Freedom dining tips are only added to your OB account because you have a different waiter every night on freedom, with freedom they are pooled and shared from the money you pay on you OB account.

Club Dining is not taken from OB Account but paid in cash at the end of your cruise.

Tipping is always a hot button topic. I believe that if you remove the auto tip and then tip individually the person being tipped is required to turn that tip into the "pool" which is shared by all. If you tip the table waiter, he/she will probably ask for your stateroom number; they then check that againest a master list. Your stateroom attendant already knows. If you have removed the daily tips then the money is expected to be turned in. If you have not removed the tips and are tipping extra they are allowed to keep the tip.

Most of the wait staff has been keenly instructed as to the possibility of "secret" tippers and are pretty aware of the consequences.

I have heard that P&O/Princess Australia has done away with the auto tip and prices have increased.
