Wi-fi in ports?

SJ27

Recommended Posts

Hi all... having read the various posts about expensive and very slow internet services on ships (at least the Emerald which we will be on), I am trying to figure out where in the ports we will be able to access it . Of course would prefer free wi-fi but any wi-fi info will be useful.. so if anyone knows places in the Baltic ports that would be on the usual sights route would appreciate a listing!

(for example doing the same thing for NYC could say free wi-fi in: all starbucks, Hard Rock Cafe, Met, AMNH etc...!)

Oslo actually has surprisingly little free WiFi. Most Burger King and McDonald's have free WiFi, and there's a Burger King just west of the city hall on Olav V's gate (probably the closest hotspot I know of to the main Akershus pier). There's also a Hard Rock Cafe on Karl Johans gate and a McDonald's near Stortinget.

Near Vigelands Park, there's a great little cafe by the Frogner Stadion bus/tram stop called Coffi that has free WiFi. You might also check at the Wayne's Coffee chain, as I know that at least some of the shops have WiFi.

Around the Bygdøy museums, you might have a harder time, just because there isn't as much over there.

One tip for Oslo is that if you're at a cafe or restaurant, take a look at the WiFi connections in the area to see if there's one that looks like it might belong to the place you're at. If it's a protected network that requires a password, ask your waiter if you can use it. There are a lot of places that will give you the password if you ask.

Thanks Kaisatsu, exactly the type of info I was looking for (though not sure if free wi-fi is enough to make me go into BK or McDonalds :D) Hopefully we can get similar info for the other ports.
