Electronic Craps Table

Well, I was wondering when I would see my first one in a casino? I was just in Nassau and took a cab to Cable Beach. Got there and the craps tables had a minimum bet of $25. I asked if they will change it to $10 min and the lady there said she can't even remember when the minimum was below $25. I said that is crazy as there was not ONE player at the table. It was ridiculous. I thought these casinos want to make money. Anyway, she directed me to the electronic craps table they have there. It has a one dollar minimum. It has about 8 seats total and on the other side there was an electronic roulette table. I was the only one playing and it appears each person plays their own game. And after playing it I figured out why I was the only one playing.

Anyway, I put money in the machine and thought I would give it a whirl. It is a bit clunky and hard to make bets as there is this stupid timer. Gives you about 20 seconds to place all your bets and if you aren't finished in time you are out of luck. Overall, I didn't like it. The fun factor was missing and I simply didn't get it. Maybe because it was my first time. But, I can now say I have seen my first electronic craps game in a casino.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

I played electronic craps once at Gila River (?) casino near Phoenix AZ. Apparently, dice games are illegal in AZ casinos, so they get around that rule by offering electronic craps instead. I was amused by the fact that when I placed $1 on the 6 or 8 that it would pay me $1.17 when I won!

I think I saw an electronic craps table at Bill's last time I was in Vegas (March)... I didn't stop to look at it though as who the heck wants to play an electronic version? I can't believe the normal craps table had a $25 minimum... that's obscene... I can get built up to have $150 at risk on the table at a $5 min table.. I can't think of playing at $25.. I like my money too much... Which casino was this so I know not to bother to go to it? What were the other game's minimum (BJ and 3 card etc....)

Bill's Gambling Hall & Saloon (Formerly the Barbary Coast) does indeed have the electronic craps table. The only advantage I see to it is the reader board that shows the last 10 or 15 rolls plus how many rolls it's been since each of the numbers has rolled/ So, of you're once of those players that thinks just because it's been 25 rolls since the 11 has rolled and "It's due" THIS is the game for you. I hope it doesn't catch on, I like my job too much.

Well as long as they don't make any improvements to the clunkiness of the game you have nothing to worry about. As it stands it is a ridiculous way to play craps. Unless, you want a roulette style craps where they as you say display the previous rolls. Even with that I still think it come way short from the real thing. There is NO emotion when playing electronic craps. Talk about a dry game.

I did go over to the Bill's Gambiling Hall & Saloon and saw this advertised:

Rapid Craps

Bill’s is now the only casino in the world to have Rapid Craps™. By combining a traditional craps table and the excitement of players throwing the dice with up to 20 touch-screen player terminals, Rapid Craps™ is a revolutionary new way to play this popular table game

This is a different type of table then the one I saw at Cable Beach. No way there were 20 at the cable beach casino. More like 8 max and it appeared you played your own craps game and were not playing with anyone else. I wonder if you are playing with the other players at Bills? Or is it individual? Any way you can find this out MrCo9? I am just wondering. ttyl

Looks like I found out my answer on my own when I did a search on electronic tables. I ran into a link about bill's. It appears that the only electronic part is the betting. The players actually ROLL the dice. And there is a dealer there monitoring. It does appear that is a live game with everyone playing together. Interesting. See:

The one in the Bahamas was entirely electronic, with no dealer, and you got paid via a ticket when you wanted to leave. About 8 or so people can play but you play your own game.

I definitely did not like the one in the Bahamas. It was clunky and just wasn't the same. I don't know if I would like the electronic type at Vegas though. But it is an interesting idea. But, I think I would still prefer the original game.

Well then I can see playing that type (where only the betting is electronic). That just eliminates the dealers (Sorry MrCO9) and speeds up the game (which can be both bad and good). I can't see playing an all electronic game as it seems too boring... I can do that at home one BoDog's. I'd much rather have the true manual game. The interaction with the dealers is part of the fun...

I will be in Nassau on a cruise this thanksgiving... now I know to give the crystal palace a wide berth... what other options are there? I have not been there since 1990...so i am sure there are more casinos now... Maybe Atlantis?

Yes, the electronic betting one eliminates the dealers which I am not a fan of as you say it is fun to interact with the dealers. I do hope this doesn't take off as well and end up in all the casinos in an effort to replace dealers and "speed" up the game.

Yes, forget crystal palace. Not only are they ridiculous on their minimums try getting a cab there without getting ripped off. That is another story in itself.

As for other options. Head over to Atlantis casino. It is a short cab ride and watch out for getting ripped off. Discuss the cab fare before you ride and the amount you will give him or her including tips or take the ferry boat with no problems. You just have to wait longer which kinda stinks. Yes, they have government rates posted for cabs but they ignore it completely. Totally corrupt business if you ask me. Anyway, Atlantis is better but you will be looking at a $15 minimum table if you are lucky. Yes, there are $10 tables but I was told that they are rarely open. Most of the time it is $15 and $25 so be prepared for those minimums. At crystal palace when I requested them to open one they pretty much laughed at me. Perhaps in Atlantis you will have a warmer response. I am thinking if you found a few other players and all of you went to the pit boss and asked for one to be opened they just might do it. When I was there over a weekend of the 6 to 8 craps tables they have only ONE was open. And there weren't many players at all. I think Atlantis would be more player friendly than crystal palace. Someone about the palace just doesn't seem right to me. Good luck.

I played an electronic craps table at the Hilton in Vegas in the late 90s. It was a minimum 25 cent bet and up to 6 could play at a time. No one else was playing and it was cheap enough that my friends were willing to have me teach them how to play using it. At the real table version, the $5 minimum bet was too expensive for them and they wouldn't play.

  • 2 months later...

I've played the Rapid Craps at Bill's in Las Vegas. They had two dealers working the table. (real dice. not electronic) Not sure why they needed two, but that's what they had. It was fun to see them pay out the correct amount no matter what. Place a $5 6 or 8? Take and odd dollar amount for odds on the 5 and the 9? You'll get the proper payout and won't get shorted. When you cash out, they give you chips and then real coins for any amount under $1. I found it slightly odd that it just wasn't ticket out.

It was interesting, if not exactly rapid, It was cool that the betting screen would always show how much money you had out on the table. There were some oddities about it asking you for odds bets, though. Sometimes, it seemed to forget to ask you. It seemed to get confused if there were multiple things to do after a dice roll. But I did well and took a couple hundred off the table. So, I had a reasonably favorable impression.
