Barb Nahoumi Posted April 18, 2011 #26 Share Posted April 18, 2011 Yeah, I did check the spring break dates and most seemed to be in March so I thought we would be okay the week of April 10th. No such luck unfortunately. Usually the kids congregate in the children's area, but in this case they were just everywhere. The colleges have their breaks in March, while the public schools break in mid April. Classes end in May for college students. The younger ones end in June, provided they don't have to make up snow days. I guess that the best time to avoid the rug-rats would be in mid September until right before Thanksgiving. After that, there are numerous school breaks. Also many families might avoid the longer cruises of two weeks or more. They're expensive. When we did the 14 day Panama canal cruise, there was hardly a child aboard-----We counted 20, aboard the Pearl.
GoVikes Posted April 18, 2011 #27 Share Posted April 18, 2011 The choice is yours, but I will tell you one last thing - those families with the little kids - have spent oh a couple grand to get on the cruise and have prepared to have a great trip, those kids will be better behaved, more prepared and will insure their kids do not interfere with anyones elses cruise, unfortionately the "silvers" do not remember this or do so. I agree! Is there any way to find out how many children will be on your sailing?[/quote I don't know what NCL's policy regarding this is, but Princess told us the number of children booked on our last cruise. We were looking to find out the number of kids that would be with ours in the youth center. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. edawn Posted April 19, 2011 #29 Share Posted April 19, 2011 We were on the Dawn to Bermuda the last week od Aug '10. There were 900+ kids onboard. It really wasn't a problem. I guess the kids became a little bored near the end and were hanging out in stair areas and pretty much everywhere there was a place to sit. I think it depends on your tolerance level though. I've noticed that rates drop on cruises the beginning on Dec right after Thanksgiving...must mean not a lot of people cruise those weeks. Just a thought... yucaipagal Posted April 19, 2011 #30 Share Posted April 19, 2011 As someone who has cruised, over 10 times, and traveled over 3 continents, I can tell you that kids may be an issue, but so are adults, they both can affect your exprence.Kids - Yes, teens and 20 somethings can get a whole lot of stuff going, but at mnight they will congregate in the casino, dance clubs are high energy bars. Will they make noise - yes, and they can, it is there trip as well. There is no quarantee to a perfect quiet night, or adult use of pools, if you want these quaranteed, get a higher priced cruise. period.Adults - I am sorry but I have had more fights with the 65 and over crowd then the 25 and under. The righeous indignation of service that is expected and demanded, no matter how out of whack your standrds are, the removal of tips from your account, due it is too epxensive, the fights at the MDR at 4:30, its a cruise, they won;t run out of food, i promise.NCL has free style cruising, which is a quiet way of saying segregation - if you want to have an inside cabin, eat at the MDR and shuffle along, it is rather inexpensive to do so, and you get what you pay for. I prefer outside balcony - suite, and I DO eat at the fee restaurants, why...I want a better meal and am WILLING to pay for it. I drink in he piano lounge and have a great trip. I am expecting to spend aditioonal money on the cruise - I epxpect my cabin to bill to be a couple 1,000's after a family of 5, dinner,s excursions, classes, drinks, merchandise etc. You have the ability to do as you wish and have the experience you wish - it all depends on what you want to do, you want to go on the cheap, you get noise and the like - spend money - more secluded cabins, better dining experiences etc.The choice is yours, but I will tell you one last thing - those families with the little kids - have spent oh a couple grand to get on the cruise and have prepared to have a great trip, those kids will be better behaved, more prepared and will insure their kids do not interfere with anyones elses cruise, unfortionately the "silvers" do not remember this or do so. Well said! We travel with our two small children (3,5) and occasionally my niece and nephews (9,11,14) and they are all well behaved, while the silver's have commented they can't imagine traveling with children (in a very snarky way) to my parents with all of us in the elevator.... We all tell them we couldn't imagine another way. I have had a silver tell me kids shouldn't cruise- while holding my napping son and taking him back to the room and I have been told that my little ones should not have their own seats in the theater- that one sends me over the edge. My kids have rights too! And not the point, but my kids when not in a suite are full fare pax because we always get two connecting cabins when the four of us travel-I like to be able to read or watch the tv when I put them down by eight and my hubby goes to the casino. I would much rather cruise with kids that are happy to be on vacation, spend time having fun in kids club and are usually very considerate than cruising with the few rude silvers I have encountered. I go with NCL because I like their freestyle, love their suites and find them very family friendly!!!!
