Renting a car v. DCL transportation to the Magic Kingdom

We are sailing on the Dream in July and then are spending a few days in the Magic Kingdom. We currently have transportation booked through DCL to the Polynesian. Is there a benefit to renting a car at Port Canaveral instead? Will it get us there any faster? Pros v. Cons, anyone? Thanks in advance!

Once you get to the Poly will you have any need for a car? If not take DCL transportation. If you plan on driving yourself to the parks, you will have a hot car and traffic. Let Disney take you there in air conditioned comfort. :D

I don't think you'll get there much quicker by renting a car. By the time you get through the process of renting, the Disney Bus will be on its way. The Disney Bus is actually a nice motorcoach with comfortable seats and video screens. If you're not planning on leaving Disney property after arriving at the Poly, you definitely won't need a car. You can take the monorail directly from the hotel to the Magic Kingdom, or walk abot 7 minutes to get to the monorail to take you to Epcot. There are also frequent shuttle busses from your hotel to the other areas and parks of Disney.
