experience with taxi at Athen's airport

Does anyone have any information regarding a reliable taxi company to pick us up at the airport? Do you know how long a drive it would be to the port?

Thanks

We always uses Georges Taxi in Athens:

The travel time to the port, without traffic is forty minutes, but you'll need to "allow" about double that time because the last part of the drive is through the very congested business district, and you just never know.

Most Athens Taxi and Limo companies will give you the option of hiring a "luggage assistant for the driver ($10 or $15 additional) who will whisk your bags from the luggage carousel in the airport and have them reappear in your stateroom, as if by magic.

Don't worry about how they do it, just sit back and enjoy it, you're on vacation!

When we went to Athens a few years ago we arranged private car transport via Grayline Tours (discount for AAA members when booked online)--a little pricey but we were so glad we did as they was an unexpected 1/2 day airport strike that day and planes could only start landing after it ended, about 3 pm. By that time planes were coming in right and left and the line for regular taxis was a football field in length. Our private driver had been waiting there patiently all along and we drove right off.

I've also read several recommendations for George the Taxi Driver mentioned above and for Spiros (***********@yahoo.com). We are booked with Spiros for our arrival this summer.

Another vote for Georges.. They are reliable, clean, English speaking and good value for the service rendered. You are met outside passport contral/baggage area and away you go. Your name will be on a sign carried by your driver. A very good service.:)

I'm just back and I used the taxi at the airport. Just make sure you go to the taxi line. They have set fees now. I can't remember how much to the pier but it was a flat 35 Euros to a central hotel. We were in the Plaka district. From the hotel, it was a flat 20 Euros to the pier.

Although Athens recently set a flat fee of 35 Euros from the airport to central Athens (somewhat higher at night), there currently is no flat fee set from the airport to Pireaus. Also no flat fee from central Athens to Piraeus; that apparently was the rate you or your hotel negotiated with the taxi company.

We too are very happy with Georges Taxi.

The trip from the airport to Athens was 55 Euro.

When we landed, we had 1.5 hours to get our luggage, meet our driver, get to the bus station, purchase bus tickets and get on the bus.

Had we not had Spiros (who spoke very good English), there would have been a very good possibility that we would not have made our bus (to the ferry).
