Caye Caulker questions

Recommended Posts

We are experienced snorkelers with our own equipment. We are planning to do the Stingray City tour in Grand Cayman, so don't we really feel the need to snorkle with stingrays in Belize. Coral Breeze has a "beach break" tour that in basically just transportation to the island. Is there good snorkeling from the beach? Are there things to do on the island? Are the restaurants safe to eat in? We will be on the Carnival Miracle in June. Thanks!

Thank you for your replies. It looks like the Coral Breeze snorkeling tour might be best for us. But I'll continue to monitor the boards for reviews and new info. I appreciate everyone's help!

We did not like the beaches with dried dog poop as we walked down the main road in Caye Caulker. The people were nice.

It was laid back.

I would not recommmend Coral Breezes. We thought our money spent was a total waste.

There is very little beach snorkeling in Belize, except for the really small Cayes, such as Goff Caye. The snorkeling is at the reef which is awesome. Shark/Ray Alley is a different experience than Sting Ray City. You actually will be swimming/snorkeling with the rays and nurse sharks as opposed to standing on the sand.

The town at Caye Caulker is small, about 2 blocks. Very laid back, not much to do. The local crafts for sale are local jewelry and wood carvings. Did not eat at the restaurants, but this is a tourist/divers island and the hotels/restaurants would all seemed to be safe. They tend to cater to the smaller pockets of the divers.
