Do I need an excursion?

You didn't say where all you are going, but since this was posted in the Grand Turk board, I will hazard a guess that it is one of your stops.

Without an excursion, you can:

1) kick back and relax at Margaritaville, with food and rum tasties, and relax by their pool and/or watch people wipe out on the "Flow Rider".

2) enjoy several hours on a nice beach

3) take a long walk along the beach, in either direction

south takes you to the southern tip of the island (about 1/4 mile)

north takes you up to "Jack's Shack", another place to kick back and have food and assorted rum tasties, or go snorkeling off the beach.

4) Wander around the cruise center and go shopping.

5) And my favorite, give in, and go on one of the terrific snorkeling excursions offered there. Then pick from 1-4 for the rest of the day.

We've been to Grand Turk once. Next visit March 2012 on Ruby Princess. We are only there a half day so don't plan an organized excursion. After prior visit, our plan is to get off ship and turn right and head to southern tip of island. After some beach combing (our favorite thing) we will head back to Margaritaville for a Margarita (they are really great there) and then some shopping. That should do it.

Be prepared for some exercise. We tried to do that last July. Granted, we had just come off a snorkeling excursion, so our legs were a bit tired, but the sand is quite loose, so walking in it is work. If you go down to the surf line, where sand is usually more firm, forget it, you will sink up to your ankle. We got about halfway to the southern tip, and turned around. I will say, it was interesting. There are conch shells by the thousands. Not much for collectors, as they are all broken, but interesting to see, and wonder how long some have been there. There are a lot embedded in the coral rocks, which have clearly been eroded, so you know those have been there a long time.
