Need some help re: renting a car for Animal Kingdom

This is actually an excursion question, but I couldn't find a forum for Port Canaveral excursions? We'll be arriving for a day on the Pride and I'm interested in heading to Animal Kingdom on our own vs. the Carnival excursion. Can anyone give me advice about how/where to rent a car, length/difficulty of the trip to Animal Kingdom, or any other tips about heading there solo? Thanks in advance for your help!

Lots of car rental agencies in the PC and nearby Coco Beach area - just about every one will offer free shuttle from/to the port. Try searching www.carrentals.com to compare rates from many agencies, but you may do better going straight to the company web iste if you have a discount code. You can seach the FLA, East Coast and Carnival boards for Pride reviews to see which agencies offered better service to cruisers.

The ride from PC to MCO is usually about 45 or so minutes; add at least 20-30 to that to get to AK depending upon traffic. I would figure on 2+ hours to get the car and get to AK, and another 2+ hours to get back, drop the car and return to the ship.

Check your favorite guide book (mine is Unofficial WDW) and some of the WDW web sites for AK touring and dining info. Good luck! :)
