The cruise lines can be much more flexible about carry-on sizes than the airlines since, obviously, the luggage doesn't have to fit in the overhead bins! Seriously, if a bag doesn't go through the X-ray machine they might hand-search the bag instead, but they won't stop you from carrying it on. There are never enough days at sea!
